How to write your CV
Your CV is your first impression of a potential employer, and it’s essential to make it count. A well-written CV can help you land an interview and ultimately secure a job. Here are some tips on how to write a great CV:
Do’s:
- Tailor your CV to each job application. Customize your CV to highlight the skills and experience most relevant to the job you’re applying for.
- Use action verbs. Start each bullet point with an action verb to demonstrate your accomplishments.
- Quantify your achievements. Whenever possible, use numbers and percentages to quantify your achievements.
- Proofread your CV carefully. Before you submit your CV, have a friend or mentor proofread it for errors.
- Keep your CV up-to-date. Regularly update your CV with your latest skills and experience.
Don’ts:
- Don’t include irrelevant information. Only include information that is relevant to the job you’re applying for.
- Don’t use personal pronouns. Avoid using personal pronouns such as “I” and “me.”
- Don’t use jargon. Avoid using technical jargon that all readers may not understand.
- Don’t lie. Never lie on your CV. If you are caught, it could cost you the job.
Additional tips:
- Keep your CV to two pages unless you have a lot of experience.
- Save your resume as a PDF. PDF files are the most portable and universally accepted CV format.
- Consider a bilingual CV. Canada is a bilingual country, and having a CV in English and French can significantly increase your job prospects, particularly in regions where both languages are prevalent.

How to make my CV stand out?
